Woolford was one of a number of high-profile departures from Bramall Lane this summer after he was released from his contract earlier this month.

Former Cardiff City and Brentford goalkeeper Long has been allowed to speak to potential suitors after falling out of favour.

Long started in United's first four games of the 2016/17 campaign but was dropped for Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Millwall and replaced by new arrival Simon Moore.

Wilder said: “George came to see us on Monday. He wants to be number one which is understandable. He wants to see what's out there.

"If it's not right for George or right for us, then he will remain our player after the window.”

Wilder also revealed he has also made approaches to sign Wigan Athletic’s Craig Morgan and Millwall midfielder Byron Webster in the last week.
