Adams’s taste for cup excitement has been heightened by Blades’ run

AS YORKSHIRE’S Football League contingent prepare to do battle once again in the Capital One Cup, the “crazy night” enjoyed by Sheffield United midfielder Che Adams in last season’s semi-final underlines what can be at stake even at this early stage.

The Blades continued the recent trend of the county faring well in English football’s second knockout competition by battling through to the last four.

United lost 1-0 in the first leg at Tottenham Hotspur but then gave the Premier League side a huge fright at Bramall Lane in the return when Adams came off the bench to score twice inside just three second-half minutes.

Christian Eriksen netted a late winner to send Spurs through to Wembley, but Adams says memories of that night will be part of his motivation tonight as Nigel Adkins’s Blades travel to Morecambe for a potentially tricky first round tie.

“I had a taste of it last year but, hopefully, this season I can make an impact again,” said the 19-year-old to The Yorkshire Post. “It was a crazy night. I’d only seen the Spurs players on the TV so it felt funny to score against them.

“I think we deserved to win that night, to be honest. We were the better team and showed more passion at the end.”

United endured a miserable start to the League One campaign on Saturday with a 4-0 hammering at Gillingham.

But Adams believes his team-mates will bounce back from that tonight.

“The lads work hard,” he said. “They are a good bunch and I think we can get through. Hopefully, we can get to the semi-finals again this season and, hopefully, get through this time.

“It was a massive experience playing against some of those lads, it was incredible. We have got a good enough team to be in the Championship and hopefully this season we can go up.

“The belief is massive in the changing room. We believe we can go and do better things.”
