Bournemouth 0 Sheffield United 2: Blades make the most of their good fortune to carve out another win

Sheffield United continue to snap at the League One leaders’ heels, with two own goals giving them victory at Bournemouth and a sixth successive win.

In-form Bournemouth had gone into the game having not conceded in their last four games, but it was not long before the trickery of the impressive Ched Evans had them trailing.

The first goal arrived in the fifth minute when leading scorer Evans got clear on the right and saw his low drive turned in by Bournemouth captain Adam Barrett.

The goal seemed to take the hosts by surprise and if anyone was going to score again it was the visitors who looked the more threatening.

While there may have been an element of good fortune about both goals, Blades manager Danny Wilson insisted that he felt it was no more than his players deserved.

“It was a very strong, very disciplined and very determined performance against a good team who were in good form, going into the game.” said Wilson.

“The home team showed that they could be a threat but I thought we stopped them really well and showed pockets of great play, where we looked excellent.

“The crosses Ched put in were undefendable, they were goals anyway, even if the defender does not touch the ball.

“They are great goals from our point of view and, we thought, well deserved, we could have been three up after 20 minutes.”

After the break, Evans and strike partner Richard Cresswell continued to work well together, with both having opportunities.

But they had to wait for their two-goal cushion until there was 15 minutes remaining, Steve Cook providing the final touch to another cross from Evans.
