The 28-year-old striker has signed on loan until January 31 and ends Nigel Clough’s pursuit for the former Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley forward.

Clough said: “It has been something of a drawn out affair, we have been chasing Chris for a while and we are just delighted to get it over the line until the end of January with a view to extending it.

“There aren’t too many strikers of Chris’s calibre around at the moment, we liked him last season at Barnsley and he has got good Championship experience.

“Chris was a target for us in the summer, but Brighton came in with a deal we simply couldn’t match in terms of wages and what they could have been potentially offering him as a playing challenge.

“Talks of a permanent move haven’t taken place, hopefully we will extended it until the end of the season come January and then re-assess in the summer.”

The Blades play host to Notts County in League One on Friday night.
