The annual BBC Sport Price of Football survey revealed the cheapest adult ticket at both the Blades and Town is just £10, with the addition of a programme, cup of tea and a pie adding an extra £7.70 (£17.70 in total) at Bramall Lane and £7.80 (£17.80) at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Yorkshire pair are just two of four Football League clubs to offer a matchday for under £20, Derby County (£18) and Accrington Stanley (£19.50) being the others.

It is the second consecutive season the Blades have received the accolade of offering the cheapest matchday experience in the Football League.

“We want to offer affordable football to Sheffield United fans and we are delighted we have come top for the second season running,” said club spokesman Kevin Cookson.

“It is important in these testing times as we all know how expensive football can be.”

Huddersfield chairman Dean Hoyle said: “In terms of our matchday prices, our categories mean we have flexibility and can match prices with the circumstances of each game through the season.

“We have to balance ticket affordability with the financial cost of running the club and also building our fanbase.

“We do recognise that times are tough for many supporters. We want to provide flexibility and something for everyone so as many as possible can watch us in live action.”

Blackpool have the Championship’s cheapest season ticket at £195.30.

Ipswich have the costliest at £1,061, £311 more than their nearest divisional rivals, Leicester City, and £111 more expensive than the dearest season ticket at Premier League champions Manchester United.

The BBC Sport Price of Football study looked at 166 clubs in 10 divisions across British football, including the Conference Premier and Women’s Super League.
