Peterborough 0 Sheffield U 0: Blades build on weekend win with determined point

SHEFFIELD United claimed an excellent point as they kept high-flying Peterborough at bay.

Battling Blades gave caretaker manager Chris Morgan plenty to smile about despite his side slipping back into the relegation zone.

Morgan, who believes last night was his last game in charge of the club with a new manager expected to be appointed this week, made two changes to his side for the trip to London Road.

The injured Matt Hill was
replaced by Simon Lappin in a 4-5-1 formation, while Conor Coady came in for Marlon King.

It was Coady who had the first decent chance of the contest when he shot wide after only six minutes.

But Posh applied pressure with a string of chances. Danny Swanson forced a smart save from goalkeeper George Long in the 14th minute before Tyrone Barnett blasted wide from a tight angle. Paul Taylor and Tommy Rowe then also went close.

However, the best chance of the half came eight minutes before the break when Lyle Taylor struck the crossbar with a fulminating shot against the run of play.

Febian Brandy shot wide moments later as the Blades went close to breaking the deadlock, but a minute before half-time Michael Bostick was denied by a good save from Long, who then thwarted Paul Taylor three minutes after the restart.

Taylor powered a shot over the bar as Posh pushed for the winner and Harry Maguire went close at the other end, but Morgan’s men dug deep to make sure of a share of the spoils.
