Sammon and fellow frontman Jose Baxter were on target as the Blades deservedly notched up their second straight victory.

The visitors fired themselves into the lead after just 15 minutes, Sammon rifling the ball into the roof of the net after being teed up by Billy Sharp.

Posh were stunned and Marcus Maddison twice tried his luck, but the visitors hit back with Jay McEveley heading just over.

Towards the end of an opening half which had seen the Blades lose both Stefan Scougall and Neill Collins to worrying injuries, the visitors came agonisingly close to increasing their lead. David Edgar nodded narrowly wide, while Baxter fizzed an effort past the post.

The Blades opened the second period impressively, but couldn’t extend their lead as Chris Basham and Che Adams both threatened.

The visitors were made to pay just before the hour mark when substitute Soulimane Coulibaly made an immediate impact. The Ivorian frontman lashed home after latching on to Jack Collison’s pass, but it wasn’t enough.

Sammon pounced to make it 2-1 with a left-footed strike, before Baxter settled matters with five minutes left.
