BILLY SHARP returned to haunt his former club Scunthorpe United as his second-half winner gave Sheffield United a 1-0 away win in League One.

Sharp netted five minutes after the interval as the Blades made it back to back wins in League One for the first time since August.

The victory lifted Nigel Adkins’ side to ninth and just one point off the play-offs.

“I think this is the first time that Sheffield United have ever won at Glanford Park,” said Adkins, who twice led the Iron to promotion to the second tier. “It was destined for Billy Sharp to also come back here and score, wasn’t it?

“That’s two in two games for him now, he’s on a bit of a roll.

“His goal was from a move straight off the training ground, so credit to Andy Crosby for that.

“We want to play expansive football, but it is all about getting the balance right.

“We know we can score goals, but we were conceding too many as well. “We are beginning to look more solid now as a defensive unit.

“We showed a grit and resilience out there to get the result we wanted.”
