Sheffield United 4 Bury 0: Blades go marching on

SHEFFIELD United’s impressive start to the season goes on after this comfortable victory over Bury, writes Ian Appleyard.

Goals from Chris Porter, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Matthew Lowton, and substitute Erik Tonne made it 16 points from a possible 18 for the Blades who are seeking to bounce back at the first attempt after relegation to League One.

Porter broke the deadlock three minutes before the interval and a mistake by Bury goalkeeper Cameron Belford allowed on loan winger Mendez-Laing to double the advantage at the start of the second half.

Lowton scored in the 71st minute after Belford could only parry a low shot by Richard Cresswell.

Substitute Tonne wrapped things up in the 84th minute with an acrobatic finish at a corner.

In the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy second round, Rotherham United will entertain Sheffield United in a South Yorkshire derby.
