The lifelong Blades fan has joined the League One outfit on a two-year deal with the Blades paying an undisclosed fee to secure his services from Leeds United.

The 29-year-old has spent two previous spells at S2, starting off his career there before returning in a £2m deal from Scunthorpe United in the summer of 2007, when he was brought in by ex-Blades chief Bryan Robson.

Sharp’s second spell at the Lane proved indistinguished and after being put on the transfer list, he joined Doncaster Rovers and got his career back on track.

Sharp later worked with current Blades boss Nigel Adkins at Southampton and Reading and he is eager to reward the Liverpudlian’s faith after he signed him for a third time.

Sharp said: “As soon as I saw I got linked to the club (Sheffield United), I thought: ‘Maybe, he (Adkins) still likes me as a player.

“I was enjoying my time at Leeds. I didn’t play as much as I’d have liked to have done, but when I found out the gaffer was really interested in me, I was chomping at the bit to get back.

“It’s finally happened and I am delighted.

“It’s really the second time for me because I didn’t really play when I was a kid. Last time I came, I had scored 56 goals in two seasons and was a 20-year-old who came for two million pounds.

“I should have scored more goals, but for me, I didn’t really play enough games.

“I can deal with that this time and I know what is the club is about and I’m older and wiser and more experienced.

“This gaffer knows what I can do and I’m looking forward to what is coming.”
