Sheffield United investigating rumours of Lys Mousset involvement in drink-drive crash

Pictures were circulating on social media of the badly-damaged car, and South Yorkshire police have confirmed two men in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of being "over the prescribed limit" after an Abbeydale Road South at around 12.10am on Monday.

The distinctive sports car collided with a number of parked cars on the street.

Mousset's season has only recently started after toe surgery, and to have him involved in controversy is the last thing the Blades need.

They are bottom of the Premier League with two points from 17 matches, equalling the worst start in the history of English league football.

They were only able to name six of the nine permitted substitutes for Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace thanks to illness, injury and suspension. Mousset started the game, but was substituted after 61 minutes.

The 24-year-old Frenchman was last season's joint top-scorer with six league goals, but is yet to find the net in 2020-21. He suffered a freak toe injury in pre-season, and did not return until the late-November defeat at West Bromwich Albion, where he missed an excellent chance to equalise in the closing stages.

It was the first of six appearances so far this season, four from the bench.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire police confirmed: "Police were called at around 12.10am this morning (Monday 4 January) following reports of a collision on Abbeydale Road South, Sheffield.

"It is reported that an orange Lamborghini was involved in a collision with a number of parked cars.

"Two men in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of being over the prescribed limit. Both have been released under investigation while enquiries continue."

The Blades made only a brief comment to say: "Officials at Sheffield United are aware of images circulating on social media and are currently making internal enquiries."
