‘We played Sheffield United football against Arsenal,’ says Sander Berge

Midfielder Sander Berge saw signs of the aggression Sheffield United had missed in the previous three matches, as they pushed Arsenal all the way in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final at Bramall Lane.

High-flying Sheffield United had come back down to earth on the restart of football with defeats by Manchester United and Newcastle United, and a draw with Aston Villa, all of which came in the Premier League.

But on Sunday at Bramall lane - albeit an empty Bramall Lane - United showed signs of their old selves until Dani Cebellos struck an injury-time winner to send the Gunners into the semi-final.

“We were very aggressive,” said Norwegian midfielder Berge, the club’s record signing in January.

“We won the ball and we played Sheffield United football. It was brutal they came away with a late winner.

“That was what we’ve been lacking in the first games since we’ve been back, the aggression and that feeling of we’re a good team. We can play at this level and we’ve shown that all season so why not now?

“We came back to ourselves and really found the key in the game to play tough and keep composure with the ball but we maybe lacked that little finish.

“The big decisions didn’t go our way but soon the margins will change if we keep playing like this.”
