Sheffield United's Premier League rivals Everton 'face 12-point deduction' as 'severe' punishment recommended
The Toffees are currently fighting against allegations of breaking the Premier League’s financial regulations.
If this deduction was to be applied, it would deal a significant blow to Everton’s chances of top flight survival.
It could, however, offer hope to rivals also looking to secure Premier League status.
Sheffield United are currently rooted to the bottom of the table on one point, but a 12-point deduction for Everton at this stage would lift the Blades off the foot of the table.
As it stands, AFC Bournemouth, Burnley and Luton Town would also move up the table if a deduction was applied immediately.
As per the report, Everton’s case is currently being heard by an independent commission following financial losses of over £370m over a three-year period.
Everton have insisted they have complied with rules and have vowed to defend their position.
