Sheffield Wednesday star Fernando Forestieri apologises to club '“ but future still uncertain

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY head coach Carlos Carvalhal has confirmed the club have received an apology from Fernando Forestieri after he missed the weekend game at Norwich City - but will not say whether he will be involved in tomorrow's match at Burton Albion.

Forestieri refused to travel to Carrow Road, claiming that his ‘mind was not in the right place’ following speculation linking him with big-money switches to Derby County and Newcastle United, with the former seeing a bid of £7m rejected.

The former Watford player apologised for his actions via Twitter today, tweeting: “There are a lot of rumours and opinions going around which have been blown out of proportion and are upsetting.

“I just want to clarify I have never wanted to leave and have always and still do want to play for Sheffield Wednesday!

“I apologise for my behaviour and know there is no excuse!

“I hope we can move on so I can focus only on my passion!”

Carvalhal, who confirmed that Forestieri has been fined with the club dealing with the situation as an internal matter, said: “He has apologised to all the staff and all his colleagues. This is one part of the situation and the other part is if he will be involved (at Burton) or not. It is a completely different thing.

“I never talk about if the players are involved or not.

“I am the coach and wish to focus on the things I can control.

“(But) I see with positive eyes when a player recognises that he did a mistake and came to apologise.”
