Sheffield Wednesday v Yeovil: Johnson hoping for Wednesday recall to try to earn new deal

WINGER Jermaine Johnson is sweating over his future at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Jamaican international will be out of contract in the summer and has yet to be offered a new deal.

Injury-hit Johnson, 30, was wanted by Nottingham Forest last summer but has started only six games this season.

Speaking ahead of tonight's game against Yeovil, Johnson said: "I love this club and I don't want to leave – but if the opportunity comes along and this club doesn't want me to stay, I will have to move on.

"I would love to stay but there have been no discussions and we don't know what the gaffer is doing yet." he added. "As a player, you always want to play high in the league and, when you are playing well, teams are going to come and look for you – but I want to stay and do well for this club."

With manager Alan Irvine set to make changes after Saturday's 4-0 defeat at Leyton Orient, Johnson is hoping for a recall to the side.

"I'm trying to fight my way back into the team," he said. "I was a bit upset at being dropped but I know the gaffer tries to make the right decisions and I have to be respectful of what he is doing."

The Owls have dropped to 12th spot in the League One table, five points adrift of the play-off zone.

"We need to get points," said Johnson. "I thought we would be running this league but it's been hard and far different to the Championship."

Last six games: Owls LWLLDL, Yeovil DDWWWL.

Last time: Owls 1 Yeovil 1; January 7, 1939; FA Cup.

Referee: TM Kettle (Rutland).
