Dejphon Chansiri - Sheffield Wednesday owner on FFP points reduction and Garry Monk’s future

Dejphon Chansiri maintains that Sheffield Wednesday broke no financial fair play rules when he bought Hillsborough and leased the ground back to the club, but he has no plans to pursue the matter further after the club’s points deduction was reduced from 12 points to six.

“It’s clear that we should not have been deducted 12 points from the beginning,” said the Owls owner. “This caused damage.

“It’s better than nothing but I’m still disappointed because I don’t think we should have had any deduction because we didn’t do anything wrong.

“We need to accept it at the moment.

“I think the matter should be over.”

On the future of manager Garry Monk, who has been under pressure from fans, he said: “He knows what he needs to.

“We still hope we can push for the play-offs or even go up automatically.”

With their punishment cut to six points deducted, they are a point away from Championship safety with 36 games to play.

Chansiri says he has no plans to sell the club but was critical about the lack of support from the Football League and the Government during the coronavirus crisis.

“Actually I don’t think about selling the club,” he said. “I try to do the best I can but no one knows the future . Because of the covid situation we don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.

“We don’t know if it will last a few years of whatever.

“In this situation it’s all over the world so every business has stopped or gone slow.

“I don’t what the EFL is going to do or if the Government will support is.

“In the UK I don’t know what the EFL or the Government are planning to do. I don’t see any support. We’ve had this for nearly a year but we don’t see direction, just a void. But the club’s can’t wait because we face a big cost. No one’s trying to support so every club needs to help themselves.”
