Eddie Howe rules out loan move for Newcastle United youngster amid reported Sheffield Wednesday, Preston North End and Huddersfield Town interest

Eddie Howe has ruled out the prospect of Elliot Anderson leaving Newcastle United on loan this month.

The midfielder was the subject of interest from several clubs in the summer but the Magpies opted to keep him at St James’ Park. Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday were both linked with the player in the last transfer window with several clubs in the Championship and League One cubs reportedly interested in the 20-year-old this month.

Injuries have prevented Anderson from establishing himself with Newcastle, who have enjoyed a fine season as they sit third in the Premier League table.

Anderson enjoyed an impressive loan spell with Bristol Rovers in the second half of the 2021-22 season. He joined the club on January 31 and went on to make 21 appearances, scoring eight goals as the club were promoted from League Two.

However, Howe has said there will be no such loan move this January and insisted Anderson has a “valuable” role to play at Newcastle in the second half of the campaing.

"He's very valued by us. He's had a number of niggles over the last couple of months which have prevented him being involved more,” said Howe.

"He's got a valuable role to play with us between now and the end season - we certainly won't be loaning him anywhere."
