Gray looking for repeat as he aims to strengthen Owls

Gray, who has challenged the Owls to be Yorkshire’s top club come season’s end, says his sole concern, however, is on the here and now, with his side having taken just a point from their last two games.

“If you get 11 individuals playing to their full potential and playing well, the Leeds game summed that up,” he said.

“Everyone of them was an eight or nine out of 10. With six goals and a clean sheet live on TV, it was very very pleasing.

“We now need to go to Leeds and get a win and a winning run going again.”

Gray has called on today’s man-in-the-middle James Adcock to show some common sense amid the hothouse derby environment.

Gray added: “In a local derby, it will be 100 miles per hour and I hope we get a strong referee who lets things go for the first 20 minutes, because if he doesn’t and books early, he is going to be under a little bit of pressure.”

The Owls chief is afforded the rare luxury of picking from strength for today’s lunch-time derby with Tom Lees, Kieran Lee and Sam Hutchinson back in the fray, but he has still his sights set on augmenting his numbers.

Over the past few seasons, Wednesday have suffered more than most on the injury front and while Gray’s options are comparatively healthy, he appreciates that can soon change.

On the prospect of incoming signings, with the emergency loan window open until November 27, Gray said: “Probably after the international break is when they will happen as more often than not, there is not much movement in the break.

“So it will probably be before our next game with Watford that there will be movement.”
