Megson prepares to put case forward

SHEFF WED: Manager Gary Megson has been granted a personal hearing by the Football Association in relation to comments about referee Steve Rushton, writes Ian Appleyard.

Megson was sent to the stands by Rushton during last month’s League One clash at Dagenham and Redbridge and has already been fined £1,000 for that offence after admitting a charge of misconduct.

However, Megson is refusing to accept a second charge of misconduct which relates to comments he made about Rushton to the media after the game.

The Owls manager was quoted as saying Rushton had been ‘influenced’ by Dagenham manager John Still and also described his second-half performance as both ‘pathetic’ and ‘one-eyed’.

He was angry that Still had walked down the touchline with his arm around Rushton’s shoulder prior to the start of the second half.

Megson had replied to the charge before yesterday’s deadline but the FA have still to set a date for his hearing.
