Owls blow: Antonio out for a month

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have been handed an injury blow with winger Michail Antonio to be sidelined for at least a month after damaging ankle ligaments.

The former Reading man came off at half-time after being injured in last weekend’s derby win at Huddersfield after coming off second-best in a block tackle with Town defender Anthony Gerrard.

It’s another setback to the 23-year-old, who has endured an injury-hit 2013-14 campaign, suffering a knee injury at the end of November, following on from a lay-off with a groin problem towards the end of the previous season.

Owls head coach Stuart Gray said: “Antonio has torn ligaments in his ankle, so he’s going to be out for weeks unfortunately. He’s a big, big loss for us and I am disappointed for the boy.

“It won’t be a couple of weeks, but (more) weeks.

“His season has been stop-start and he’s sick of the sight of seeing physios.”

Giles Coke broke a bone in his left hand in Monday’s FA Cup loss at Charlton and will have a cast fitted tomorrow. He should be fit enough to play in Saturday’s home encounter with Middlesbrough.

Meanwhile, Lewis Buxton has also suffered an injury setback after suffering a hamstring tweak in an U21 match.
