Relaxed underdogs are playing for pride as they aim to spoil party

Already relegated, Exeter host Sheffield United and Wycombe visit Sheffield Wednesday with little more than pride at stake.

But there is also the chance to spoil the Steel City party, and although both are big underdogs, neither will be turning up to roll over and die.

Wycombe manager Gary Waddock said of the trip to Hillsborough: “It’s a brilliant game. These are the games you want to be playing in League One.

“We’re going down to League Two so we can always remind them that this is what we want to get back to – playing in those stadiums against clubs like that.

“Thirty-seven thousand people – if you can’t run out into a stadium like that and perform you’re in the wrong profession.

“It’s going to be a massive, massive ask for us to go up there and get a result.

“But we’ll go up there and give a good account of ourselves and be extremely professional in everything we do to try and finish on a high.

“We’ve got everything to gain and nothing to lose. We’ve been relegated, they’re looking to get promotion.

“We can go up there and be extremely relaxed and composed and calm and go and play our football whereas they have to win.

“All the pressure is on them. There is none whatsoever on us.”

Exeter manager Paul Tisdale, whose side welcome the Blades, said: “People will say we have nothing to play for but we have to pay respect to our opponents and their opponents (Sheffield Wednesday).

“I’m not sure we will be celebrating our time in League One, we will just try and play the game as best we can and enjoy playing in front of a full house.

“Sheffield United will certainly be playing to win and we will have to do our best to get a result. We will relish playing against a big club, albeit in strange circumstances.

“We’ll be wary other people have something to play for. We will play with a lot of pride.”
