Sheffield Wednesday 2 Notts County 1: Madine grabs Owls winner

Sheffield Wednesday returned to winning ways today when they came from behind to beat Notts County at Hillsborough.

Goalkeeper Nicky Weaver returned in goal against Notts County after missing the midweek defeat at Bury with a swollen knee.

Captain and centre-back Rob Jones failed a fitness test after picking up a broken nose at Bury, while striker Chris O’Grady (heel) is ruled out for several weeks.

Ben Marshall, a loan signing from Stoke City, made his debut on the wing for Wednesday.

But the Owls got off to a poor start when a Jeff Hughes penalty inside the opening 10 minutes put County in front.

The closest Wednesday came to scoring was when an unmarked Clinton Morrison headed over from six yards out.

After being booed off at half-time, Wednesday battled back to take a deserved victory.

First full-back Julian Bennett hammered the ball home after good work from Clinton Morrison.

Then Lewis Buxton played in Gary Madine, who slid in for a winner.
