Sheffield Wednesday 3 MK Dons 1: Madine double sinks leaders MK Dons

GARY Madine scored twice and set up the third as Sheffield Wednesday inflicted a first defeat of the season on League One leaders Milton Keynes Dons, writes Ian Appleyard.

The striker scored his first in the 54th minute after a good pass by Clinton Morrison, found the net again nine minutes later with a buller header, then turned creator in in the 89th minute with the ball that allowed substitute Liam Palmer to score his first senior goal.

Wednesday had found it tough to get the better of the Dons in the first half but improved after the break.

Winger Jermaine Johnson, who made his first start of the season after knee surgery, was substituted at the break after struggling to get into the game.

Although the Dons threatened to get back in the game when substitute Angelo Balanta made it 2-1 in the 72nd minute, Palmer’s goal wrapped up a valuable victory for the Owls.

Dons striker Jabo Obehre was sent off in stoppage time for a second bookable offence.
