Wigan Athletic v Sheffield Wednesday: Wednesday in debit after dire display and fans need quick refund, feels Gray

ON the long journey back to Yorkshire from Yeovil Town, the team coach carrying Sheffield Wednesday’s squad called in at a service station to give the driver a rest.

Two supporters’ buses were already there and, as was to be expected, the Wednesdayites were downbeat following the 2-0 defeat.

Owls’ head coach Stuart Gray took it upon himself to clamber aboard one of the coaches and apologise for Wednesday’s insipid display.

The gesture went down well, but Gray now wants his players to make proper amends for Yeovil when they take on FA Cup holders Wigan Athletic tonight.

He said: “The journey to Yeovil is so long that you have to stop for a break. We coincided with two Sheffield Wednesday coaches.

“I was disappointed that they had paid their hard-earned money and we gave them nothing to cheer.

“I know how hard they work to earn their money to follow us.

“I read somewhere that 4,500 will be going to Doncaster and it isn’t cheap to watch football.

“So, we had a conversation (at the services). The players then posed for photographs and they know that if you are going to wear the shirt, you have to be 100 per cent committed.”
