Plymouth Argyle v Sheffield Wednesday: Pressure is shared as Owls seek antidote to pain at Theatre of Greens

THE THEATRE of Greens has been more like a house of pain for Sheffield Wednesday over the past decade or so.

The Owls' last four visits in league and cup to Home Park - all during the autumn - have seen them lose on all four occasions, conceding a combined total of 11 goals, mustering just three in reply.

Last season, when the two clubs were in the mix for automatic promotion from League One in 2022-23, Wednesday went down to a late 2-1 loss at Plymouth Argyle's home.

In the previous campaign, the Owls lost 3-0 on both occasions at Argyle, bowing out of the FA Cup in a first-round replay in November 2021 - following on from a league defeat by an identical scoreline two months earlier.

Despite those historical statistics, combined with the club's awful start to the season, it will not stop an impressive four-figure following from heading down to Devon.

Danny Rohl was quick to praise the backing from the supporters in his opening game in charge at Watford when a sell-out away contingent travelled to Vicarage Road.

Should Wednesday manage to secure a much-needed win at Plymouth, it would represent a significant psychological lift and be very well timed.

Head coach Rohl said: "This is the situation (back-to-back away games). We have to accept it and we’ll go to Plymouth, and then we’ll do it all again and again - that’s just our situation at the moment.

"It's good that they (fans) have our back and we got the energy off all our fans.

"It's important we are all together in one direction and it (Watford) was a good first step (in that regard)."

Wednesday face hosts who have lost their last two home matches, to Swansea and Millwall respectively.
