SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY manager Tony Pulis has revealed that he has implemented a fines system to try and combat the club’s poor disciplinary record.

The Owls have seen five players dismissed so far this season - including two in Pulis’s four games in charge so far

One in the shape of Josh Windass is available again for Saturday’s tough trip to Norwich City after serving a three-match ban for his sending off in Pulis’s first game in charge at Preston.

But the other player who has received his marching orders in Pulis’s tenure so far in Liam Shaw will start the first match of his own three-match suspension and be unavailable for the Carrow Road test.

Fellow midfielder Massimo Luongo will also be missing after picking up his fifth caution of the season in the midweek draw with Reading.

Pulis said: “I have brought in a fines system and hopefully that livens them up.

“It is ridiculous we have had five players sent off. That is not good enough. We had talked about it and hopefully we can eradicate the poor decisions that players are making at times.

“I have had two. The Windass one and the Shaw one, which were two poor challenges and challenges you cannot make today.

“The lads have got to be responsible for that and you cannot justify their actions once they cross the line and they have got to play in a way that they know is compatible to the rules.

“If they don’t, they will get punished and those two have been punished because they have been reckless.

“Losing the young lad is a disappointment. I quite like him. I think he’s got a very, very good temperament and good feet for such a big lad.

“He could be a good player and hopefully he will learn from that challenge and incident.”

Wednesday’s medical staff will assess captain Barry Bannan later today after he was withdrawn at half-time against Reading due to an ankle issue.

Pulis added: “Barry is the only one that we’ll check on. He won’t do a lot today.

"It’s whether I start him or bring him on and keep him for the coming games. I’ll make a decision in the next 24 hours.”
