Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk on striker search

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY manager Garry Monk has professed to being open-minded on his search to bring in a new striker.

The Owls chief remains in the market for new recruits, with bringing in another option up front being his major priority.

The club have been linked with a move for West Brom striker Kenneth Zohore, but as it stands, Monk says that there is nothing imminent regarding potential new arrivals.

Offering an update and questioned about the type of player he wants to bring in, Monk said: "It is still ongoing and there is nothing imminent on that.

"You take it daily and speak to the guys in recruitment at the club and see if anything has moved along where we are at. It is a constant daily communication.

"For a club and as a manager, you want to create competition and if you can add quality that you think can help, then you always want to do that. It is difficult and not easy and a lot of things go into that.

"it is not just our own situation and how we have to work. But also other relevance and other clubs and players that are being considered as well.

"We know what we want to try and do, but it is not always as straightforward as that.

"We are open to everything. Take Fisayo (Dele-Bashiru) who has got no experience at all and then Izzy Brown, who has a lot of experience. It shows we are open to anything and the most important thing is the right type of player and person to get into this group to build that environment of hard work and unity.

"As a manager, you want as much quality as you can. What number (of signings) that will be, we don't know."

Monk reports no fresh injury updates ahead of Saturday's tough home opener with Watford, who are blessed with 'one of the strongest, if not the strongest' squads in the Championship, according to the Owls chief.

Monk - who is still without Osaze Urhoghide and Chey Dunkley - said: "We have a clean bill of health (after Rochdale cup win), which is good. It is exactly the same for this game as it has been from the start of the season.

"Osaze is progressing and Chey went for his check-up scan with his consultant and it is really good news and we are really happy with it. He has progressed really well and working hard and it is a process of building him up.

"Of course, he has missed quite a bit of football with the knee injury that he has had, but it is great news that it is healing really well and it is just a case of building up the strength around it and his football fitness.

"Osaze is back in training and it is a case of looking what he might need - whether he needs some preparation games with the under-23s first. He has not played football for quite a while now. But he is back in training and a fit lad and it is assessing him as we go along."
