Sheffield Wednesday's away ticket own goal

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have blamed an "administrative error" for over-charging away fans at Hillsborough during the second half of the season.

The Owls have been forced to repay several thousands of pounds after inadvertently breaching Football League rules by reducing the prices of home tickets in mid-season but not the cost of tickets for visiting fans.

League rules stipulate that clubs implementing changes to ticket prices after June 30 must also offer the same discounts to away supporters.

"This was an administrative oversight that we have since worked closely with the Football League to correct," said an Owls spokesman. "We contacted all of the affected clubs, whose supporters could claim up to a 5 refund, and we were more than happy to co-operate in correcting this error."

Owls striker Leon Clarke has agreed to join former Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock at Queens Park Rangers next season.

Clarke, who was released by the Owls, will sign a two-year deal at Loftus Road and Warnock said: "Some people might be surprised by this signing but he's a player I've fancied for a very long while. I think he's got a lot of ability but I think he's under-achieved. I rate him very highly."
