Team of the Week: Who makes our latest starting XI?

FEAR not; the Championship and Premier League may be on a two-week hiatus, but the Yorkshire Post's Team of the Weekend has not been put into cold storage.
..
.

After Hull City, Leeds United, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough players stole the limelight in last week’s line-up, Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers representatives have come to the party this week - along with their Blades counterparts, well represented in the team for the second week running.

A classic 4-4-2 formation ...

1: Simon Moore (Sheffield United)

Truth be told, the Blades custodian did not have that much to do at the Proact Stadium and had little chance with Jon Nolan’s early exorcet for Chesterfield. But he showed his worth with a timely second-half save at a key juncture to deny that man Ched Evans when the fates of Sunday’s derby were firmly in the balance at 1-1. Enjoying himself immensely at S2 and has yet to be on the losing side in a league game at the club.

2: Kieron Freeman (Sheffield United)

Talk about a transformation. The smart money was on Freeman’s Blades career being over in the summer. But he has come in from the cold and his determination and character is in many ways emblematic of the club’s resurgence under one of their own in Chris Wilder. Was proactive in the second half and gambled and took a risk to fly into the box on 54 minutes and it paid off with his header getting Sheffield United on terms at Chesterfield and they didn’t look back en route to a 4-1 win.

3: James Meredith (Bradford City)

Back to his marauding best down the left and played his part as City claimed their biggest league win under Stuart McCall in front of the EFL’s top league crowd of the day. A reassuringly strong performance.

4: Nathaniel Knight-Pervical (Bradford City)

Coolness personified and nipped any Rochdale threat firmly in the bud alongside central defensive partner Romaine Vincelot. Has looked a class apart at the back for City in the first half of the campaign and can reflect upon a resoundingly successful time of it in the claret and amber thus far.

The midfield operator turned defender went about his business, like Knight-Pervical, with the minimum of fuss. Shows resolution and footballing qualities in equal measure and his partnership at the back with NKP is certainly one of the more accomplished in League One circles.

6: John Fleck (Sheffield United)

After a slow burner of a start to his Blades career, Fleck is starting to display the classy midfield traits which convinced Chris Wilder to make a great play for him in the summer and land him amid a fair bit of competition. Was at the hub of most good things for the Blades in a turbo-charged second period and was rewarded with his first goal in club colours - a scorching low drive which positively flew past home keeper Ryan Fulton. Busy, bright and accomplished.

7: Mark Marshall (Bradford City)

His celebrations were something to behold at Valley Parade after assuming free-kick duties and netting a rare goal with his weaker left-foot. Enjoyed himself immensely along with several other home players and had a beano at times against ten-men Dale.

8: Nicky Law (Bradford City).

His second coming at City has been seamless with the industrious midfielder really making Stuart McCall’s side tick. Created Bradford’s opener and probed continually in an excellent display in the heart of the engine room. Classy performance.

9: Liam Mandeville (Doncaster Rovers)

Did a very passable impersonation of a flame-haired lad from Liverpool in the seventies who went by the name of David Fairclough.

His ‘supersub’ entrance provided the catalyst to Rovers’ stirring late rally at Exeter, with the young striker inspiring an ultimately victorious away day for Darren Ferguson’s side in deepest Devon. The teenager created havoc when he came on, scoring one goal and creating another two. Some performance, it will be hard to leave him out next weekend. A real statement.

10: John Marquis (Doncaster Rovers)

The gleeful beneficiary of two bits of exemplary work from that man Mandeville, with the pair slotting together adeptly when paired together. Scored a brace of well-taken goals to take his haul for the season up to nine goals. Can reflect on a strong first half to the campaign with Rovers. A key man.

11: Mark Duffy (Sheffield United).

May not have scored in United’s four-goal showing in North Derbyshire, but proved a real pest to the Chesterfield backline, more especially in the second half and set up two goals. Name-checked by Chris Wilder for his super performance afterwards and was at the heart of all things good on the offensive front for the buoyant visitors. Denied a first-half goal by a fine save from home keeper Fulton.

Manager: Chris Wilder (Sheffield United).

Just gets the nod ahead of Stuart McCall, with the Blades chief having commandeered a superb 12-match unbeaten league streak which has made all of League One sit up and take notice. The Blades, unbeaten in the league since August 20, are onto something good, with Unitedites clearly of that view. A raucous second-half chant of ‘Chrrise Wilder, he’s one of our own’ was undiluted affirmation for the Bramall Lane chief, although you sense he will only settle if the Blades have finished off the job in the spring.
