Tranmere v Bradford City - Mark Trueman keen to temper expectations

Of all the problems Bradford City had a couple of weeks ago, over-confidence was certainly not one of them.

Now joint caretaker manager Mark Trueman is warning against it ahead of today’s trip to Tranmere Rovers.

The Bantams head west on the back of seven points from three matches since Trueman and Conor Sellars took over from Stuart McCall, winning the last two.

The busy festive schedule offers the prospect of building some momentum, but Trueman warns they cannot get carried away with themselves.

“It was a little bit of a whirlwind for myself and Conor but it’s a good thing that the games come thick and fast,” he said.

“It would be nice to have a week’s training with them if we are still in the role but at the minute we’ve just got to keep working hard with them to prepare them.

“You can see the confidence around the building, in their performances, in the changing room.

“Winning breeds confidence and you’ve just got to keep pushing and demanding more of each other because it’s quite easy to let (over-)confidence creep into your building but we can’t allow that to happen and we won’t.

“The preparation started with the analysis team on Monday and there were some more late evenings planning and preparing but the team is more important at this moment in time because there’s a lot of games and it’s important we maintain the fitness levels and we don’t lose players.”

City were unchanged in their 2-1 win at Grimsby Town, but there will be fresh faces in the next week.

“It’s got to be about a collective,” said Trueman.

“The players who are playing need to keep the shirts and those who are not starting have got to keep pushing them.”
