Hull City’s Sam Clucas is attracting the interest of four clubs in the Premier League led by West Brom who see the Tigers star as a strong alternative to Everton’s Gareth Barry.

West Brom boss Tony Pulis is on the hunt for a new central midfielder following Darren Fletcher’s move to Stoke City.

The Baggies have reportedly set their sights on prising Barry away from Goodison Park but Clucas is regarded as a strong backup plan should Barry stay with the Toffees.

Leeds will wait to discover the extent of Everton loanee Matthew Pennington’s ankle injury before deciding whether or not to pursue another centre-back option.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Middlesbrough are closing in on a deal to sign Birmingham City defender Ryan Shotton who is valued at around £3m. The 28-year-old can play at either centre-half of right back.

Sheffield Wednesday - who already have well documented problems with Ferenando Forestieri - are braced for a big-money bid for striker Jordan Rhodes from free-spending Wolves.

Wolves - who have started the new Championship with two wins out of two - are plotting an ambitious £20m double move to land both Rhodes and Norwich City striker Nelson Oliveira.

Wolves’ Conor Coady remains on the radar of Sheffield United, despite the Blades already having seen one approach for the 24-year-old turned down earlier this summer.

In the Premier League, Huddersfield Town are moving closer to signing Barnsley right-back Andy Yiadom.

The 20-year-old Ghanaian enjoyed a fine season with the Reds last season, making 33 appearances whilst also representing his country at the African Cup of Nations.

Barnsley, meanwhile, are lining up a surprise move for Aston Villa’s Gary Gardner who the Midlands outfit are prepared to part with on a loan deal.
