Transfer gossip (Tues, July 19): Tigers chase second Welsh star; Boro want Man Utd winger; Owls go for Power; Leeds double target

WELSH international Chris Gunter is the latest name to be linked with a move to Hull City, whose manager Steve Bruce has been interviewed for the England job.

The Tigers have already been heavily linked with one Wales international with City widely expected to sign out-of-contract striker Hal Robson-Kanu, formerly of Reading.

Reports also suggest that Hull are also targeting Reading’s Welsh full-back Gunter, who is said to have a £1.1m release clause on his contract.

Gunter, 26, has two years left on his current deal and, like Robson-Kanu, excelled for Wales at Euro 2016.

Hull are also offering a lifeline to former Premier League striker Peter Odemwingie, who is on trial at the club and is expected to feature in tonight’s friendly at Mansfield Town.

Middlesbrough, meanwhile, continue to close in on sealing the transfers of striker Alvaro Negredo, midfielder Gaston Ramirez and centre-back Neven Subotic with deals for all three looking imminent.

But Boro face fresh competition from Stoke City if they are to land Fenerbache’s former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie.

Middlesbrough, West Ham and Crystal Palace have also been linked with a move for the 32-year-old, whose £240k-a-week wages are proving an obstacle.

The Teessiders have already been linked with a move for Manchester United wide man Adnan Januzaj.

In the Championship, Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly interested in signing Wigan Athletic midfielder Max Power and are thought to be lining up a £2m bid.

Power, 22, has two years left on his contract and is believed to have been watched by the Owls during Wigan’s friendly loss to Manchester United on Saturday.

The Owls sealed their latest signing on Monday when snapping up former Norwich City goalkeeper Jake Kean.

Leeds United, meanwhile, continue to show interest in both Fleetwood Town right-back Conor McLaughlin and NEC winger Anthony Limbombe, who has had a bitter fall out with his Nijmegan club after walking out of training.

NEC are believed to have already accepted a bid from Toulouse, a move which Limbombe is reluctant to take, but Club Brugge have also been tracking the youngster.

United are also keen on bringing back Sunderland’s former Whites loanee Liam Bridcutt but he is now attracting the interest of Aston Villa.

Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United and Barnsley are being linked with a move for Falkirk midfielder Will Vaulks, who is also interesting Bristol City.

Vaulks is under contract until next summer but will turn 23 in September and can, therefore, leave for free in 12 months’ time.

Falkirk reportedly had one bid for the player rejected on Monday.

Barnsley already completed the signing of striker Tom Bradshaw from Walsall on Monday evening.

League Two outfit Doncaster Rovers could be about to sign veteran midfielder Paul Green, who has been training with them but Rovers face competition from several League One clubs.

In National League, York City have signed former Dorchester Town midfielder Franklyn Clarke.

Clarke, 23, has signed a one-year-deal with the option of a further 12 months after impressing during a two-week trial.
