Tykes to avoid complacency

But as they return from the international break to take on Portsmouth in front of the television cameras at Fratton Park, Hill has stressed the importance of not getting too far ahead of themselves.

“Confidence is one thing,” said the manager. “Belief and confidence can be a great motive for any club.

“But you’ve got to be careful with confidence, it can soon turn into arrogance – which is blind.

“All of a sudden you can start feeling as though it’s a question of just being good enough.

“We’re wary of that situation developing but we haven’t seen any signs of it in training yet.

“It’s a great place to be in, because there aren’t too many question marks at the minute.”

Portsmouth are without a manager after Steve Cotterill quit to take over at Championship rivals Nottingham Forest. The clubs agreed a compnesation package on Thursday night for the 47-year-old.

“It has not been an easy decision because of the relationship I have with people at Portsmouth,” said Cotterill. “Forest are a fantastic club and when I heard of their interest it was very flattering.”
