PAUL HECKINGBOTTOM says that full-back Andy Yiadom is now back in the fold with Barnsley after his African Cup of Nations exertions with Ghana and is in the mix for Saturday's Championship trip to Reading.

The former Barnet captain was part of the Ghana squad which reached the semi-finals before bowing out to Cameroon and eventually finished fourth - and head coach Heckingbottom believes that the experience of an international tournament will have hugely benefited the defender, whose last Barnsley appearance was on January 2.

Heckingbottom, whose side face back-to-back away trips to Reading and Aston Villa, said: “Yids has done a lot of travelling with him and his team-mates having to fly back to Ghana before, then departing back here.

“But he will be training with us today and back in the squad.

“We will have to see how he is. But he is a sensible lad and very professional, so he will give us honest feedback of how he thinks.

“Looking at his training time and minutes, he did not do a lot of minutes. But he played two games which is ideal for us, the last of which was last weekend. It is just probably the right amount of football and a case of assessing him over the next few weeks.”

Meanwhile, Heckingbottom has revealed that Adam Jackson is currently suffering from a bout of food poisoning, but Ryan Williams is back in training after recovering from a similar ailment.

Aidy White has had another operation to correct a pelvic issue and while Heckingbottom is unsure when the ex-Rotherham United and Leeds United player will return, he is hopeful that his problem is not a long-term one and that he could return before the end of the season.

Saidy Janko is set to return to training early next week.
