Video - Leeds United's Liam Bridcutt blasted by Denmark over '˜horrible tackle'

LEEDS UNITED midfielder Liam Bridcutt received the backing of Scotland captain Scott Brown after his two-footed tackle on Denmark's Erik Sviatchenko in last night's international friendly at Hampden.

Sviatchenko, the Celtic defender, claimed Bridcutt could have “broken my leg” with a challenge towards the end of Scotland’s 1-0 win.

Bridcutt, who earned his second Scotland cap after appearing as a substitute, was booked for the foul 10 minutes from time.

Brown described the incident as a “fair tackle” amid stinging criticism of Bridcutt by Sviatchenko and Denmark coach Age Hareide.

Sviatchenko said: “I was very lucky. It was a horrible tackle. When you see the replay it is unbelievable I didn’t get a serious injury.

“I said to the referee he could have broken my leg. But in a split second he had to make the decision and must have felt he touched the ball first.”

Hareide said: “I don’t think he (Bridcutt) meant to be nasty. I just think he was over-eager. But it was really bad. He could have taken his leg or his career.”

But Brown said: “I thought it was a fair tackle the way I saw it but I haven’t seen it back yet. Erik got up and that’s the main thing.”
