They have been linked with Wolves winger Rajiv van La Parra, Aston Villa defender Kevin Toner and Liverpool midfielder Daniel Trickett-Smith.

Town head coach David Wagner said after Saturday’s defeat: “We are looking at some possible signings, but, as I have said, they must benefit us in the long term.”

Of Saturday’s game, he added: “We were not at our best apart from the first 15 or 20 minutes of the second half.

“The big moments of the game didn’t go our way and after they scored from their first chance it was very difficult for us.

“We always tried to stay in the game but we made too many mistakes. Normally when you score two goals at home you should pick up points.

“I don’t have a problem with mistakes as long as we show the right reaction. We won’t change our beliefs or the way we play.”

A brace from Peter Whittingham and a debut goal from loanee Lex Immers secured back-to-back away wins for Cardiff for the first time this season.

They went ahead in the 37th minute after former Huddersfield forward Anthony Pilkington pulled the ball back for Whittingham to slot home.

Huddersfield were level three minutes later when Nahki Wells fired left-footed into the bottom corner from Jamie Paterson’s cross for his 11th of the season.

Cardiff made it 2-1 in the 61st minute when Immers, on loan from Feyenoord, finished off a great team move.
