Wilson trusts Reds will have learnt from lesson

AS chastening as a five-goal home defeat was for Barnsley at the weekend, manager Danny Wilson insists the 5-3 loss to Milton Keynes Dons could be the making of his team.

The Reds have their first chance to make amends for the heavy reverse to the Dons when they travel to Fleetwood Town.

Wilson believes his players learned a valuable lesson in losing so badly – the Yorkshire side were 5-0 down at one stage before netting three late goals – and will put those to good use on the west coast.

He said: “We can highlight things very easily from a game like that when we review it. And they are very easy to rectify.

“It is not as if we were flummoxed as to why we did it. They were quite obvious, from the defensive side. That stemmed from keeping possession better.

“If we get a result like that in a season, I want to look back on it and say, ‘It was the making of us’.

“By the time Fleetwood comes around, we will have covered all areas (that needed addressing) and taken on board why the mistakes were made.”
