Wolverhampton v Huddersfield: Town’s run of success at Molineux set to be sorely tested

A promising venue, therefore, for Chris Powell’s men to head for a lunchtime televised clash as the Terriers look to continue their upwards trajectory in the table.

“Winning helps confidence,” said the Huddersfield chief, whose side are unbeaten in three matches.

“We have got the rewards recently in seven points from the last nine, but we need that to carry on. There is always a tough challenge around the corner and no doubt that will be the case against Wolves.”

Powell was at Craven Cottage on Tuesday night as Wanderers triumphed 3-0 so appreciates the size of the task facing Huddersfield if they are to emulate last season’s 3-1 victory at Molineux.

“Having a good record at Molineux doesn’t count for anything now,” said Powell. “Last season’s win there was a significant moment on the back of a win over Millwall and we’re going to have to perform in a similar ilk this time.

“Hopefully, we will. If we can carry on the way we have been doing, we should go into the two-week break on the back of a positive result.”

Mark Hudson returns to the squad after injury today along with Jamie Paterson, who was ineligible against parent club Nottingham Forest in Huddersfield’s last outing.

It means Town are likely to be up to the maximum five loanees in a match-day squad of 18 that is allowed under League rules.

Of those, the initial one-month stays of Jed Steer and Elliott Ward are due to end after today’s game but Powell is keen to keep both.

Emyr Huws, meanwhile, will be looking to extend his hot scoring streak of four goals in three starts since joining on loan from Wigan – a run of form that has this week brought a recall to the Wales squad.

On the make-up of his squad, Powell said: “We are a work in progress, which will never stop. We are aiming to help them be better week in, week out.”
