Wolves v Sheffield Wednesday: Bannan vows to give everything in Owls' '˜dead rubber'

The Owls will make numerous changes for the “dead rubber” at Molineux, with one eye already on next Friday’s first leg of the play-off semi-finals at Hillsborough.

But whoever is selected, Scottish international Bannan insists they will be going all out for three points.

“My dad has told me since a young age that if you go into games not wanting to get injured, you will end up getting injured,” said Bannan, named in the PFA Championship team of the season.

“It is a game that you want to win and you want to keep that momentum going.

“If 50/50s are there to be won, you’ve got to go for them. It’s another game.

“You can’t try and save yourself for the play-offs or that’s how you end up getting hurt.

“We will be taking this game seriously and treating it like any other. Hopefully we will come out with three points.”

The Owls will have an interest in the game between Middlesbrough and Brighton. The winners will clinch automatic promotion, forcing the losers into the play-offs and a two-legged match with Wednesday.

The Owls have not beaten either side during the regular campaign, but Bannan believes that will count for nothing in the play-offs.

“It doesn’t matter who we get,” he said. “You’ve got to beat everybody. There are four equal teams who are pretty similar who are all capable of beating each other. We have played both teams. Middlesbrough beat us in both games but I don’t think there was much in it.

“I wasn’t here for the home game. In the away game, they caught us early but we could have sneaked something in the end. It was pretty even.

“We drew 0-0 twice with Brighton. It is going to be close. We know we are a threat for anyone in this league.

“We want to win the game (at Wolves). You want confidence to be sky high going into the play-offs. If the gaffer changes things and tries to freshen it up and give people a chance, then so be it.

“The eleven who played on Saturday are all preparing as if we are going to start.

“The play-offs are really exciting. Everyone is looking forward to them, but we have got a big game on Saturday and we are looking to keep the momentum going into the play-off games.”
