Yeovil Town 1 Huddersfield Town 1: Town make their point despite Peltier’s rash moment of madness

LEE Peltier, the defender Yeovil sold to Huddersfield two years ago, lasted just 13 minutes on his return to Huish Park.

In front of the dugout he elbowed Dean Bowditch in the face and manager Lee Clark agreed referee Phil Crossley had no option but send him off.

Afterwards Clark said: “Lee is distraught. He loved it here. He has been fantastic for us and for that to happen was out of character. In the heat of the moment he did something he will regret for the rest of his life.”

Clark had a ready-made replacement on the bench in Jack Hunt, so midfielder Chris Atkinson was sacrificed, but the rest of the half was dominated by Yeovil, who are having their annual struggle to avoid the drop.

They limited the Terriers to one shot while at the other end applied constant pressure. A succession of near misses eventually led to a 39th-minute goal when the busy Andy Williams shrugged off two defenders to fire low past Ian Bennett’s right hand.

The second half was a different story. Clark said: “I told them we had to play higher up the field and win set pieces, because set-pieces give you a chance for a goal. We started to run the game.”

The point-saver, predictably, came from a set-piece.

Yeovil’s Nathan Smith conceded a 58th-minute corner when a throw-in was a real option and Anthony Pilkington’s kick was powerfully headed in at the far post by Antony Kay.

Kay ended the match with his head bandaged following a collision, but he and captain Peter Clarke were the men of the match. Their manager agreed: “My two centre-halves were outstanding.”

One point was not what either side wanted, but, as he confronted a 1-1 scoreline, Clark admitted: “It feels like a win, to be honest.”
