York City 1 Grays 1: Brodie on target against 10-man Grays

York City ended their home league programme on a disappointing note when they could only draw with bottom of the table Grays, a team they crushed 4-0 only 17 days earlier.

York should have cruised home, missing a penalty and half-a-dozen chances after Grays had been reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Glyn Garner was sent off for a 22nd-minute foul on Richard Brodie.

The York striker then saw his penalty saved by Preston Edwards and may need to vary his spot kicks as all nine – two of them saved – have been directed to the same corner.

When 'Players' Player of the Year' Brodie put York ahead in the 51st minute from a perfect pass from Ben Purkiss it seemed that the floodgates would open, but chances went begging. Neil Barrett missed from two yards and, in the last minute, York paid for their profligacy.

Harlee Dean's free-kick saw Michael Ingham punch weakly and Duran Reynolds chipped the ball back into the empty net.

It was a mixed day for Ingham, the 'Clubman of the Year' and 'CPP Community Player of the Year'. He sent several clearances into touch and was lucky not to concede a goal when he dropped a shot only for Alex Osborn to fire wide.

"We had enough chances to win two or three games. There's a bit of negativity about today but we have had a fantastic season, losing only nine of our 43 games. That can't be bad," said manager Martin Foyle.
