York City 1 Newport County 0: Pacquette leaves it late for York winner

SUBSTITUTE Richard Pacquette snatched a dramatic winner in the third minute of injury time as York City beat Newport County to reach the third round of the FA Carlsberg Trophy. York are now at home to Corby Town on Saturday.

York, who were without five regular first-team players, had the better of the first half but were denied by Newport goalkeeper Glynn Thompson who made two fine saves from Levi Mackin.

Newport, runaway leaders of Blue Square South, were close to taking the lead after 42 minutes when Luke Graham dropped a headed back pass short only for Josh Mimms to block Kerry Morgan's shot. Richard Brodie was cautioned on the stroke of half time which means he misses the next two matches.

Defences dominated the second half although Brodie was unlucky when his low shot was kicked off the line by Jamie Collins. Michael Gash had a shot blocked by Collins just before the end.

Then in a dramatic finish York took the lead in the third minute of added time when Pacquette followed up to score after Adam Smith's shot had been parried by Thompson.
