Adaptable Halford was my 
top target, 
says Evans

The 30-year-old former Sheffield United loanee became the seventh new face to arrive at the south Yorkshire club after agreeing terms yesterday.

It is understood Halford has agreed a two-year deal with the Millers after leaving Nottingham Forest.

Evans said: “The chairman (Tony Stewart) more than anyone will be aware that when I provided him with a list at the beginning of May of players we were targeting, Greg Halford quite simply was at the top of that list.

“There are a number of reasons behind that; not only is he a talented footballer, he is a talented footballer in a vast number of positions.

“He was nothing short of outstanding when he played as a main striker, when he led by example in helping Nottingham Forest to the play-offs when Billy Davies was in charge.”

Halford, transferred for a combined £7m during a career that includes stints in the Premier League, joins Aidy White, Joe Mattock, Lewis Buxton, Emmanuel Ledesma, Danny Collins and Tom Thorpe on Rotherham’s roster of summer signings.

York City have signed Scunthorpe United full-back Eddie Nolan on a one-year deal.

The 26-year-old Irishman joins fellow newcomers George Swan, Scott Flinders, Vadaine Oliver and James Berrett at Bootham Crescent.

Huddersfield Town have taken goalkeeper Brian Murphy on trial following his release by QPR. The 32-year-old is due to spend all week with the Terriers.

Town’s current back-up goalkeeper, Joe Murphy, has been linked with Bradford City.
