Full England internationals Paul Parker, Lee Sharpe and Gary Pallister started for the Red Devils, along with future ones in Phil Neville and David Beckham, with football’s pin-up boy Ryan Giggs also starting for the hosts.

Two of York’s side went on to play part of their careers in the Premier League in goalkeeper Dean Kiely and full-back Graeme Murty.
