The 28-year-old featured for the Owls’ under-21s earlier this week, playing the full ninety minutes in a 3-3 draw with Crewe.

The forward, who started his career at Coventry City and who was released by Oldham earlier this year, has been training with the Owls for a week.

Boss Dave Jones, who recently secured deals to keep Hull loan forward Matty Fryatt at the club and bring back Connor Wickham to Hillsborough, said: “We’ve just been having a look at him and he’s done well, but we’ll see where we go from here.”

Simpson’s old club Huddersfield have recalled Spanish frontman Christian Lopez following the expiry of an initial one-month loan at League One outfit Shrewsbury Town.

On Lopez, who made five appearances for the Shropshire side and found the net once, Shrews chief Graham Turner said: “He did okay for us, he’s got good skills and I think that he was pleasantly surprised by the standard and he feels he’s learnt a lot in the time he’s been with us.”

Huddersfield duo Ollie Norwood and Martin Paterson have both been named in Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill’s squad for the friendly against Turkey in Adana on November 15.

Paterson recently underwent a hand operation, but is set to be available for the international fixture.

Also in the squad are Rotherham United midfielder Michael O’Connor and Bradford City defender Rory McArdle, with the latter making his debut for Northern Ireland in Israel last month.

Millers striker Danny Hylton has extended his loan at League Two strugglers Bury until the New Year and will be available for the Shakers’ FA Cup clash at Cambridge at the weekend.
