Forrester’s eye for Rovers goal earns praise from boss Dickov

The 23-year-old midfielder only scored once in a injury-hit season last year, but he has hit the ground running this season.

He scored on the opening day of the season in a 3-0 win at Yeovil Town, and came off the bench on Tuesday to net the winner in the Capital One Cup win over York City.

The Yorkshire derby was heading for extra-time when, with just seconds remaining on the clock, when substitute Forrester picked his spot to perfection from 20 yards out, curling an effort just inside the left-hand post.

“He still needs games under his bet, but he’s a very good footballer, very forward-thinking,” said Dickov, about the former England youth player recruited from Brentford in 2013.

“He’s got a picture in his head of what he wants to happen and you saw that as soon as he came on tonight , and with the quality of the goal.”

York manager Nigel Worthington was left to rue a second successive last-minute heartbreaker following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Tranmere, where they conceded the equaliser four minutes into added-on time.

“That’s the difference between League One and League Two,” said Worthington about Forrester’s late strike.

“We had a couple of good chances, but between blocks and saves we just couldn’t score.”

York’s Ryan Jarvis was carried off on a stretcher with 15 minutes left and Worthington added: “It looks like he has done his ankle ligaments in.

“Obviously there will have to be some clarification on that and we’ll see what the damage is.

“He certainly won’t be back in the next couple of weeks,” he said.
