Luton v York City: Wilcox sure Minstermen have time to get out of mire

The weekend defeat at home to Dagenham & Redbridge, one of their rivals for the drop, was a big blow and left manager Russ Wilcox fuming.

He has called for a big response tonight at Luton Town, urging his players to remember the spirit that has brought decent results on the road.

“Luton is a tough game,” said Wilcox, who is without midfielder Luke Summerfield for up to a month. “They are fourth in the league and came up last year with plenty of momentum. It is going to be really tough and no one outside our club expects us to get something.

“We have 17 games to go, it is not like there is only two or three left. That gives us time to sort this out.

“What we are aware of, though, is that we need to address this sooner rather than later. A few home truths were said after the Dagenham game.

“It was a scrappy game that was settled by them having Jamie Cureton in their side. But that isn’t good enough and the players know that.

“We went into the game on the back of a good display at Southend, when we deserved more than we got. But Saturday wasn’t what we want to see.”

York have scored just once in their last six games.
