McNamara instigates rapid influx of youth 
at York

The Minstermen slipped into the relegation zone on Tuesday night with a 6-0 hammering at Portsmouth that left the club’s manager fuming.

Yesterday, four new faces arrived on loan before the 5pm deadline as McNamara raided a host of development squads.

Middlesbrough duo Bradley Fewster and Mark Kitching joined the League Two strugglers along with Arsenal defender Stefan O’Connor and Bolton Wanderers midfielder Jordan Lussey.

The quartet followed Kenny McEvoy, the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, in signing for the Minstermen until the new year.

Nineteen year-old Fewster is a particular coup, the striker being highly regarded at the Riverside and the scorer of the winner against York in pre-season. Boro team-mate Kitching, 20, is a left-sided defender.

O’Connor, 18, is also a defender, who made his Gunners debut in the Champions League against Galatasaray a year ago. Lussey is a midfielder who joined Bolton from Liverpool, where he captained the Under-21s.

All five of this week’s new arrivals are in the squad to face Accrington Stanley as York look to end a hugely damaging seven-game losing run in league and cup.

Even before the debacle that was Tuesday’s second-half collapse at Fratton Park, McNamara had put several of York’s players on the transfer list amid a vow to turn to youth.

Now, he has delivered on that promise in an attempt to end his own five-game losing run at the helm.

Doncaster midfielder Richie Wellens could miss out on reaching a milestone 200th appearance with Rovers after leaving on loan last night

The 35-year-old veteran has returned to former club Oldham Athletic on loan until January 2.

He has made 199 appearances in two spells with Rovers, but now his future at the Keepmoat Stadium looks uncertain.

He is cup-tied when Oldham travel to Sheffield United next month in the FA Cup, having played for Rovers in the first round against Stalybridge.

He will also not be allowed to play for Oldham against Doncaster when the two sides meet on December 28

Blades’ Callum McFadzean has joined League Two side Stevenage on loan until the new year.

The 21-year-old has started just twice for United this season, at Gillingham and Fulham. His loan expires on January 10.
