Minstermen prepare for toughest test yet

The Minstermen, who made it a club record 23 games unbeaten in a regular season with last week’s 3-2 triumph at Stevenage, travel to the Pirelli Stadium looking to prevent the Brewers claim a seventh straight win on home soil.

City then host Luton Town and Southend United, two sides tipped to be among the promotion chasers this term, next week as Worthington’s side look to build on a six-game unbeaten start that includes five draws.

The York chief said: “Talk of records or anything like that do not tick boxes for me. Not at all. Put it this way, it is not something I have flagged up.

“We are just concerned with the bigger picture and that is the season as a whole. And the only way you can do that is by treating it one game at a time. We just have to keep going and let everything else take care of itself.”

Even allowing for joining Burton and second-placed Cheltenham in remaining unbeaten in the fourth tier, York’s six-game wait for a first win of the season this time around was the longest since 1988.

Worthington, whose team were last beat in a regular league game by Chesterfield in January, added: “We have a little run of games now that will be a big test, starting with a Burton side who have been knocking on the door for a few years and who are a good team.

“If we are going to be there or thereabouts, these games will be a good guide. We would obviously prefer to have a few more wins but I was pleased last week with what was an excellent win.

“Burton have an excellent home record but we go there in good form.”
