McLeod profited from a mistake from York goalkeeper Scott Flinders after just 12 minutes for his fourth goal in his last five games to secure all three points for the home side.

The Magpies started brilliantly and could have been 3-0 up inside the first 10 minutes as McLeod threatened to run riot.

And he got on the scoresheet when a long ball from Liam Noble carved open the York defence. Flinders looked to be odds-on to make a routine clearance but missed his kick completely to allow McLeod the simplest of finishes.

York had been overrun but they almost hauled themselves level just after half an hour when James Berrett forced Roy Carroll into a terrific save.

Notts County continued to press after half-time but they could not find a second goal as Mike Edwards hit the post and Adam Campbell forced Flinders into a fine low save.
